Sluggers Joey Gallo, Anthony Rizzo excited to help New York Yankees make playoff drive

The New York Yankees are one of the most storied franchises in baseball. With an all-star cast of players, they have a chance to make it back to the postseason for the first time since 2012.

The yankees last world series is a headline of an article that discusses how sluggers Joey Gallo, Anthony Rizzo are excited to help the New York Yankees make their playoff drive.

MIAMI, Fla. — The New York Yankees are poised to make a postseason push now that they’ve added two new sluggers to their lineup.

In the opening game of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins, first baseman Anthony Rizzo hit his first career home run, while All-Star outfielder Joey Gallo also made his Yankees debut.

Gallo and left-handed reliever Joely Rodrguez were acquired from the Texas Rangers on Thursday for four minor league prospects. Rizzo’s nine-year career with the Chicago Cubs came to an end when he was traded to the New York Yankees in exchange for two prospects.

The Yankees were 812 games behind AL East leader Boston and 312 games behind Oakland for the league’s second wild card heading into the weekend series in Miami.

“I’d heard it was a possibility for a while, that New York was on the table for me,” Gallo remarked. “I grew up as a die-hard Yankees supporter. My ancestors are from New York. It seemed strange when they informed me I’d be going to see the Yankees. It’s an incredible team to be a part of, therefore this is a fantastic chance. I’m looking forward to it.”

Gallo and Rizzo bring left-handed power to a lineup that already includes Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, DJ LeMahieu, and Gary Sánchez, something the Yankees have lacked this season.

Rizzo remarked, “There are a lot of big hitters.” “Walking into a new clubhouse for the first time in a long time with a lot of big guys with a lot of clout is a nice feeling. You can’t help but be thrilled when you walk in and can’t wait to go out there and play.”

Gallo, 27, has 145 home runs in seven seasons with the Rangers, including 25 this season, which matched him for sixth in the majors. He’s also recognized for his achievements in the right field.

Gallo began in right field on Friday night, but New York expects him to play left field on a regular basis.

Gallo replied, “That’s totally OK with me.” “That’s OK with me.”

Rizzo, who hit 243 home runs in 11 big league seasons, has mixed feelings about joining the Yankees after leaving the Cubs. Rizzo, 31, was a key player in the Cubs’ 2016 World Series victory, which ended a 108-year drought. Kris Bryant and Javier Báez, longtime teammates, were both dealt at the trade deadline on Friday.

“It’s insane.” “It’s been a lot of discussion for years, and you can’t script it happening now,” Rizzo added. “We made some wonderful experiences and formed connections that will last a lifetime.”

“In front of a fan base that hadn’t seen a World Series in 108 years, they did a lot of unique things. Those memories will last a lifetime.”

Gallo will have a new look as a result of his trade to the Yankees. Gallo’s beard, which he had for ten years to comply with New York’s facial hair regulation, has vanished.

“On the day of the deal, I had literally just had a haircut, a beard trim, everything,” Gallo recalled. “After three hours, you’ve been traded and are on your way to New York. I suppose I’ll have to shave after all. As a result, I returned home and had to do the task on my own. In New York, it is one of the regulations to follow. It’s not something I mind doing. I haven’t seen myself in over a decade.”

Gallo will wear the Yankees’ No. 13 jersey, which was formerly worn by Alex Rodrguez. Rizzo, who previously wore No. 44 for the Cubs, was forced to switch since the number has been retired in honor of Reggie Jackson. Rizzo will don the number 48.

“For the proper reasons, it’s kind of limited pickings around here,” Rizzo remarked.

The Yankees also acquired left-hander Andrew Heaney from the Los Angeles Angels for minor league right-handers Janson Junk and Elvis Peguero before the trade deadline on Friday. On Sept. 15, the Yankees will get $500,000 from Los Angeles, which will cover a portion of Heaney’s $6.75 million contract.

Heaney, an eight-year big league veteran, pitched for the Angels this season and went 6-7 with a 5.27 ERA in 18 starts.
