On Batman actor Ben Affleck’s 49th birthday, fans are renewing their call for Warner Bros. to #MakeTheBatfleckMovie. Before filmmaker Matt Reeves rebuilt the standalone as a reboot with Robert Pattinson starring as a younger caped crusader, placing it outside of the DC Extended Universe where Affleck has been Batman since 2016, the actor-director was connected to The Batman movie. Affleck, who wore the cape and cowl for extra shooting on Zack Snyder’s Justice League director’s cut last year, will reprise the role in The Flash, alongside his Justice League co-star Ezra Miller and Michael Keaton from Batman ’89.
“We live in a world where the greatest Batman doesn’t get a solo film,” one Twitter user said on Sunday, referring to a scene from the Snyder Cut that brought Batfleck and Jared Leto’s Joker together for the first time in a hook for a Justice League Part 2 sequel. Another admirer said, “Because the greatest Batman of all time is deserving of his own trilogy. #MakeTheBatfleckMovie is now in the works.”

The trending topic, which has over 50,000 tweets as of publishing time, is the latest in a long line of calls for Affleck’s never-made Batman film. Since the release of the Snyder Cut, which concludes with the assassin Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) revealing Batman’s true identity to Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and offering to kill the Bat for free, the calls have only gotten louder.
According to Manganiello, Affleck’s version is “very amazing, extremely dark, and really hard,” and the unmade Batman film “was a pretty dark tale in which Deathstroke was like a shark or a horror movie monster that was destroying Bruce’s life from the inside out,” as reported by Yahoo last year.
“It was a systematic issue,” Manganiello said. “He assassinated everyone close to Bruce and ruined his life in an attempt to make him suffer because he believed Bruce was to blame for something that had happened to him.”
Before starring in her own movie on HBO Max (where she is portrayed by Leslie Grace), Manganiello stated that Batgirl would have assisted Batman in battling Deathstroke. Snyder has expressed his support for the Batfleck vs. Deathstroke film, but recently told MTV News that he wasn’t sure whether Affleck would return for a Netflix Batman prequel series.
In December, Jay Oliva, the storyboard artist for Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, in which Affleck made his Batman debut, tweeted that Affleck’s solo film “would have [made] fans proud.” However, in 2019, the actor-director said that he “couldn’t crack” the Batman film he co-wrote with Geoff Johns, subsequently informing GQ that he had lost interest in a solo project after starring in the Joss Whedon-completed version of Justice League in 2017.

I discovered that I had lost interest or love for it “Last March, Affleck said. “This should be created by someone for whom it is their greatest dream come true, but it had evolved into something else for me, and I knew it was time to go on.
